Lemur varius, are strepsirrhine primates and the largest extant lemurs within the family Lemuridae. Like all living lemurs, they are found only on the island of Madagascar. They live largely on fruit, more so than other lemurs, and are communal. They are considered critically endangered and relegated to a small segment of usable forest, which is dwindling in the face of selective logging and slash and burning farming.
