Hello I'd like to apply for Graduate Studies at CUNY in Computational Biology. I spent considerable time as a child in Forster Care so much of my education was dictated by strict economic parameters. I entered in the US Army in 1980 in order to launch a career in Pharmacy, which took nearly 10 years to accomplish. I was identified as a child as a prodigy and despite problems at home, finished High School early. But without any support, that just meant floundering for a number of years before I became more economically stable. Upon graduating Pharmacy School with a BS, from LIU Brooklyn, they invited me to join their new PhD program in Pharmaceutics, but I turned down the opportunity, as I had already two children and was looking forward to earnings in a career. However, I quickly got disenchanted with the profession. I tried to start the PhD but the finances made it impossible. I've had a long interest in Computers starting with punch cards, working to vic 20's, tandy TSR80s, which I used to right clinical pharmacy programs, and then onto the Linux platform, which was introduced to me in 1996. Since 1996 I've been involved in nearly all areas of the GNU/Linux OS and organized through NYLXS and NYLUG significant educational programs and workshops up until today. I've also been involved with the FSF, and my rolodex includes nearly all the technologists of that time from Monty Widus, Linus Tovalds, Richard Stallman, Nat Friedman, and more. I've also been published multiple times. I got divorced in 2009 and finally was able to focus on my life long passions with computers and programming. In 2014, I took a 3 year sabbatical from work to complete an MS in Comp Sci at LIU Brooklyn. I was all set of a research scholarship at Ariel University in Israel, but it was suddenly derailed over funding issues. So I am now looking to continue my research and education in Biological Computations, and hope CUNY will accept me for a program. Ruben Safir
